See, Rebecca? No fractured skull, no oozing blood. Just a pretty Hello Kitty with wings, floating around in heaven while picking the Valentine hearts that are growing out of clouds.
My inspiration for this mani came from this adorable wallpaper I found at this site.
I started with a base of Sinful Colors Cinderella. It's a beautiful shimmery blue with a bit of pink flash to the glass flecks in the polish. It's exactly what a Cinderella polish should look like. Sadly the Walt Disney Company tried to come out with a line of polishes inspired by Disney Princesses last year and they were a big disappointment.
I painted Hello Kitty by using acrylic paints thinned with water. I made some minor adjustments to her after I took this pic, but this is how she pretty much ended up before top coat.
Then I added clouds and the basis for the Valentine flowers using more acrylic paint. Acrylic paint is easier to work with and gives you much more control than polish. Always start with a base of nail polish on your nails, then apply acrylic paint on top of that for the art work. Seal it with clear top coat.
I finished by adding color to the Valentine hearts and a few random hearts on my other nails. I also painted a few random heart on my right hand, just to give the design a bit of continuity through the two hands. I am not as skilled at painting with my non-dominant hand.
Here are the finished nails before topcoat.
By the way, Rebecca is having a cool giveaway now (there may even be Hello Kitty items in it) so be sure to check it out before Valentine's Day.
I am really close to 500 followers, which is super exciting. I have a fun giveaway planned when I reach that milestone. Thanks to everyone for your kind support and great comments. I am having a blast doing this blog.
i have a friend who would love this! sooo cute!
ReplyDeleteIt was fun to do! Hello Kitty is such a great theme for nail art. Let me know what your friend thinks, Briana!

DeleteOMG i love hello kitty! this is amazing! i agree with Amber this is one of the best hello kitties i've seen too! so detailed for such a small area. i'm very impressed! =)
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot! Part of the reason I like working with acrylic paints is that they are so forgiving. There were some mistakes that I made in this but I could cover them up with the acrylic paint.
DeleteSo cute! And I'm glad Rebecca is happy! ;-)
ReplyDeleteHaha Allison! Anything to make Rebecca happy. ;)
DeleteThis is really cute! I should start looking for some cartoon heartsy stuff for valentines :)
ReplyDeleteI have at least one more Valentine themed mani I am going to try. I can't wait to see yours!
DeleteLove it!
ReplyDeleteThanks aimeeus! :)
Deletei feel its only fair to warn you that one day i WILL kidnap you and force you to live as my nail slave, faking nail art in my name for my blog lol. Absolute genius!! xxxx
ReplyDeleteUm, thanks? LOL! Remind me to get my phone number and address unlisted. Thanks for your kind words (and creepy sentiment). :)
DeleteAbsolutely gorgeous! I've always wanted to draw hello kitty on my nails, but it turns into a blob every time.
ReplyDeleteMy first Hello Kitty attempts were not so great either. You should really give acrylic paint a try, it is so much easier to do nail art with it. Polish is really goopy and runny, but acrylic paint will stay right where you paint it, plus it's easy to fix screw ups. Good luck, keep trying!
DeleteI'm a Hello Kitty fan since the 80s and love this!
ReplyDeleteThanks Melissa! I've loved HK for a long time too, I was always jealous of other girls in class who had cute HK pencils and stickers. :)
DeleteHey now, those zombie kittie nails were AWESOME! Not that these aren't.... but I'm just saying.... :D hehehe
ReplyDeleteAnd don't ask me why I just spelled kitty with an i and an e.... maybe because zombie has an i and an e.... I don't know, hahaha.
DeleteYes, I really love the Zombie Kittie, too. I agree, Kittie should be spelled 'ie' when preceded by Zombie. Poetic license I guess? LOL
DeleteThis is so stinking cute!! love it!
ReplyDeleteAw, thanks Angie!
DeleteI'm having a stinky morning but when I saw that first pic in your post I smiled. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteAlso I realised that it might also be because your Hello Kitty looks a bit like my very first stuffed animal. Sorry for posting a link but if you want to see I have a pic in this post :)
