Superbowl Nails

GO TEAM! Personally I am hoping the Patriots win, but I don't really care either way. In honor of today's Superbowl Game, I have painted Superbowl nails. They are fairly simple, since I don't really have a team affiliation either way. I am pretty sure my husband will cheer for the Giants because he hates Tom Brady. :)

I polished my nails a base green color to match the AstroTurf, and then painted a bunch of little footballs flying by on my middle and ring fingers.

The base polish is Orly Fresh, and I really like this color. I actually painted the base polish on the night before I did the artwork. I went to a friend's house to watch movies, and one of the girls there said my nails looked like little green apples. :) This is two coats.

To paint the footballs, I started with black acrylic paint. I could have started with brown, and then outlined in black, but I thought this route would be easier.

Then I topped the black shapes with brown acrylic paint. If you go a little too far with the brown paint, you can always touch up with a bit of black acrylic paint.

Finally, I added white acrylic paint for the stitches on the tops of the footballs. Then I sealed everything in with Seche Vite top coat. My friend Sarah said these looked like the wraps you can buy at drugstores. If you do any design in a repeating pattern, you could achieve the same effect.

Have fun watching the game (or watching the commercials)!

  2. These are so cute! And the combination of that green and brown makes me want a kiwi!

    1. Ha ha! Jennius, I actually had a few people think they WERE kiwis until they got closer. This could totally be morphed into a kiwi design and be very fun. :)

  3. Hi, i am new to nailart, recently subscribed to some of nailart blogs including urs. Some people use nail polish for the nailart and some use acrylic paints. I never used acrylic paints before, i was wondering if they dry on nails as fast as a nail polish or you have to wait for them for longer than a regualr polish. Also for beginner, would you recommend using acrylic paints or polish for nail art designs? Is it easy to use acrylic paint?

    1. Hi RaraAvis! I use both nail polish and acrylic paints for my designs. I always start by painting my nails with the base color of nail polish. After that's dried for a few minutes, I use acrylic paints for the artwork. I always use water to thin down the acrylic paint. Acrylic paints thinned with water will dry very quickly. They are usually dry within seconds. And always cover your design with top coat. Try watching videos from Robin Moses on YouTube. I learned my style from her. Have fun!

  4. You may think a painted nail is nothing more than a finger makeup, but a new exhibition created by beautiful-nail-art-design.blogspot.com begs to differ.
