31 Day Nail Art Challenge: Green Nails

This is kind of The Creature From the Black Lagoon, but doesn't really look like that monster. In fact, he looks a bit more like The Grinch, ha! But it is supposed to be a swamp monster guy. And he's supposed to be in a swamp. I like the monster more than the swamp. :-)

The base color is Adventure Island by Sinful Colors. I really like this shade.

I started with the trees, and these came out pretty well. They are painted on with acrylic paints. I used water and very thin paint to make the bottoms of the tree trunks all wishy washy.

Then I added water. I am not too thrilled with the water part of this. But painting a swamp is kind of difficult, so I just went with it.

Before topcoat... (I added China Glaze It's Alive for bling in certain areas)

And after topcoat! Pretty fun, and I super love this glitter from China Glaze. I will have to try it out on a whole nail.

My right hand in the sun. I wasn't about to attempt another swamp monster on this hand.

Polishes used in this manicure: China Glaze It's Alive, Sinful Colors Adventure Island, Essie All In One Basecoat, and Seche Vite Topcoat.

Tomorrow it is blue nails and I am super excited to show you these. I actually previewed these on my facebook fan page. If you like facebook, feel free to like my Sonoma Nail Art fanpage. Thanks!

  11. Awesome job with the grinch guy! I can't do realistic shading like that! I really like how you've twisted this challenge to do nail art each day and not just a simple color swatch! I think that was supposed to be the point, but all those other ppl doing it didn't catch on ;) great job!

  12. Thanks Leslie! I learned to do the shading by watching (obsessively watching, actually) Robin Moses videos. It's a lot easier to do cartoon people than realistic shaded people. And nearly impossible to do portraits of people that you are supposed to recognize (which will be apparent in an upcoming mani). Yeah, I thought a whole month of Nail Art should actually have NAIL ART in it, not just swatches. This has been really fun so far. :)
